The continuing education opportunities brought more than 140 physical therapists from the state to Elon.
The Department of Physical Therapy Education recently hosted two days of continuing education for more than 140 North Carolina physical therapists including program alumni, clinical instructors and the DPT class of 2017.
"Innovative Approach to the Injured Runner" was presented by Irene Davis, director of the Spaulding National Running Center in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Harvard Medical School and internationally recognized expert on the topic. She is also a fellow of both the American Physical Therapy Association and the American College of Sports Medicine and professor emeritus of physical therapy at the University of Delaware.
Stroke rehabilitation was presented by Vicki Gray, a physical therapist and research associate in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science of University of Maryland, Baltimore. She has more than 10 years of research experience in stroke and has received funding from the American Heart Association, National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research and the Claude D. Pepper Older American Independence Center to compare the effectiveness of voluntary step training and reactive step training on protective stepping, balance and falls in stroke.
