“Writing as a Social Scientist”

Wednesday, Feb. 28, Oaks 212, 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.; snacks provided REGISTER

This workshop will teach students to write as a social scientist by reviewing common genres in the discipline, identifying typical writing features, and examining expected styles, etc. The intended audiences for this workshop include students taking classes in the social sciences, students majoring/minoring in a social science, and faculty who teach social science writing. Faculty are invited to encourage their students to attend and to build this workshop into their syllabi (please inform the CWE if you want your entire class to attend so we can plan accordingly).

The workshop leaders are Laura Roselle (professor of political science and policy studies) and Kim Epting (associate professor of psychology and Center for Writing Excellence Faculty Fellow). Roselle is a co-author (with Elon’s Sharon Spray) of “Research and Writing in International Relations” and “Research and Writing in Comparative Politics.” Epting studies the connection between language and thought in the context of writing and regularly teaches social science writing in courses like the senior seminar in psychology.
