The honorees are young alumni who have achieved major professional success, serve as difference-makers in their communities and loyally support Elon as partners, advocates and investors.
The Office of Alumni Engagement and the Young Alumni Council have announced the 2018 Top 10 Under 10 Award recipients. These honorees will be celebrated at an on-campus ceremony Saturday, April 14.
This year’s recipients are outstanding young alumni who have achieved high levels of success, continuously work to elevate their communities and are loyal alumni role models. They are:
Daniel Ross Brown ’09, biology instructor, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
A biology graduate, Brown received the UNC SPIRE Postdoctoral Fellowship, which has allowed him to continue his research and gain mentorship experience. In addition to teaching at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, he is researching genetic and molecular mechanisms for addressing human cardiac development.
Bernard “Bernie” Coston II ’08, business initiatives consultant, Wells Fargo
A business administration graduate, Coston has held positions as a loan operations analyst for Credit Suisse and as a collateral analyst for GE Antares Capital. Currently, Coston is employed as a lead commercial analyst for Wells Fargo and recently received his MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Ryan Guthy ’09, co-founder and co-owner, Wicked Weed Brewing
A business administration graduate, Guthy is a founding member and owner of Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina, the largest microbrewery in the South. Wicked Weed is now distributing its beer to locations throughout the country. Guthy currently oversees the national distribution and sales team for Wicked Weed.
Andie Diemer ’10, digital photo editor, GQ Magazine
A journalism graduate, Diemer was a photo assistant at Self Magazine and senior associate photo editor at Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Wedding magazines before becoming digital visuals editor at GQ. In her community, Diemer is a co-creator of Kazoo, a magazine that aims to empower young girls to be strong, smart, fierce and true to themselves. Diemer is also a founding member of Stronger Together events in New York.
Stephanie Bement Gronewoller ’12, software developer, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
A computer science and mathematics graduate, Gronewoller is a software developer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physical Laboratory in the Tactical Wireless Systems group. Gronewoller is currently working with the Missile Defense Agency to provide protected satellite communications (SATCOM) through environments containing network jamming and nuclear scintillation.
Molly Heffernan ’11, manager of digital and marketing, Tory Burch Foundation
A public administration graduate, Heffernan currently empowers women entrepreneurs through digital efforts with the Tory Burch Foundation. Previously, Heffernan worked as director of special events for the YMCA of Greater New York and developed a brand campaign for the Siller Foundation's Building for America's Bravest program.
Greg Honan ’14, research assistant for David Gergen, Harvard Kennedy School
A political science graduate, Honan began working at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University after graduation and is now a research assistant for David Gergen, a senior political analyst at CNN and chair of the Elon University School of Law Advisory Board, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Stephanie Marken ’08, methodologist, Gallup
A political science graduate, Marken is the chief methodologist of the Gallup Daily tracking survey and the sampling and design architect for Gallup’s largest public release studies, including the Gallup-Purdue Index and Gallup-Strada Education Consumer Pulse. Her work is regularly featured at the annual meeting of the American Association of Public Opinion Research, where she has presented yearly between 2014 and 2017.
Stephanie Robinson ’11, associated health post-doctoral fellow, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
A psychology graduate, Robinson is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Prior to that, Robinson was a neurology research coordinator at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. She has research funded by the National Institute on the Aging and the Boston Roybal Center for Active Lifestyle Interventions. She is also a Suzanne Feld Zalk Memorial Endowed Fellow.
Jasmine Turner ’15, reporter, WWBT News
A journalism graduate, Turner was named Youth Trustee and served a term on the Board of Trustees from 2015 to 2017. Professionally, she is a television news reporter in Richmond, Virginia, and previously worked in a similar capacity in Wilmington, North Carolina.
