Ketevan Kupatadze recently delivered a keynote address at Tarleton State University in Texas.
Kupatadze also facilitated two breakout sessions on the topic of student-faculty partnerships during their Transformative Learning Conference.
Kupatadze’s talk was titled “Student-faculty Partnerships in Teaching and Learning: Democratizing Higher Education.” The breakout sessions expanded conversation among Tarleton State University faculty, students and staff on student-faculty partnerships, with Kupatadze offering hands-on, interactive workshops on how to develop these types of partnerships, what are or should be some of the guiding principles for faculty willing to partner with students on the pedagogical issues, how student-faculty partnership is transformative, and step-by-step advice on how to initiate such partnerships to ensure their success.
Tarleton State University faculty from diverse departments, deans of the School of Education and the School of Communications, as well as staff from the library, university counseling services and other areas of the university along with graduate students attended Kupatadze’s keynote and workshops.
Kupatadze has been working on the topic of student-faculty partnerships since the summer of 2017 when she was chosen to be Elon University’s 2017-2019 Center for Engaged Learning Scholar. In this role, Kupatadze has researched the scholarship on Students as Partners practice, as well as many higher education institutions that have implemented and institutionalized this relatively new practice. She has also authored bimonthly blog posts on the topic, which can be consulted on the CEL website.
