While attending the 2018 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, students in the School of Communications’ documentary production program enjoyed films from around the world, observed filmmaker events and panels, and met award-winning documentarians. The students will screen their own works on campus at the elondocs Documentary Showcase on Tuesday, April 24.
In addition to developing their own documentaries this semester, members of the elondocs production program served as student fellows at the 2018 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival held April 5-8.
During the four-day festival in Durham, billed as one of the world’s premier showcases of nonfiction cinema, seven Elon students enjoyed numerous films – including several international works – and interacted with award-winning documentarians.
The Elon students also attended two moderated Q&A sessions that were exclusive to Full Frame fellows. The first session featured “RBG” directors Besty West and Julie Cohen. The second event highlighted “Minding the Gap” director Bing Liu. Liu’s film, a coming-of-age saga of three skateboarding friends in Rockford, Illinois, captured the Full Frame Audience Award for Best Feature.
The students in attendance were Joyce Choi ’19, Sydney Dye ’21, Emma Kopkowski ’20, Tyler Litwin ’20, Jared Mayerson ’20, Alexandra Roat ’20 and Jordan Shaw ’20. They were accompanied by Assistant Professor Nicole Triche, elondocs program director.
In 2017, Triche screened her own documentary, “All Skate, Everybody Skate,” at Full Frame to sell-out audiences. In 2016, Elon alumnus Daniel Koehler ’12 hosted a world premiere of his film, “A House Without Snakes,” at the Durham festival.
