Raj Ghoshal, assistant professor of sociology, presented his research at two regional sociology conferences this spring.
Assistant Professor of Soiology Raj Ghoshal presented research at two recent conferences: the Eastern Sociological Society meetings in Baltimore in February, and the Southern Sociological Society meetings in New Orleans in April.
In Baltimore, Ghoshal presented early results from “Call Your Representatives,” in which he developed a method for teaching students to call elected officials and then studied students’ comfort with contacting their representatives. He also presented research on names used to signal race in online audit studies.
In New Orleans, Ghoshal presented an exercise he uses to teach sudents to conduct audit studies of discrimination, along with preliminary evidence measuring the assignment’s impacts on students’ research skills. He also co-organized two panel sessions on audit studies.
Part of Ghoshal’s travels to the second conference were funded by a Travel Grant from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning; Travel Reimbursement Grants supplement faculty travel support from other parts of the University, making it possible for more faculty to participate in national and international initiatives on teaching and learning.
