The annual award is presented to the most outstanding graduating Elon MBA student.
Elon MBA candidate Jonathan Lindberg was presented with the Richard H. Behrman Award on May 17 at a dinner to celebrate the Elon MBA and M.S. in Management Class of 2018.
The award is named after Richard “Dick” Behrman, who was the first director of the Elon MBA program. Elon MBA faculty members choose the winner based on academic excellence, contributions to the classroom environment through active participation, and demonstrated leadership in both program and community activities.
Lindberg is known for his advocacy of the Elon MBA, often speaking at program open houses, as well as for his classroom insights and leadership.
“Jon always stood out for his high level of class participation and leadership of groups – all this after a long day of work,” said Raj Gupta, associate professor of finance.
“Jon’s great combination of enthusiasm and desire to learn and apply what he was learning with others made him an energizing force and leader in my class,” added Jody Jones, adjunct professor of strategic management. “He valued what he learned from the perspectives of his classmates and how hearing from others could expand the depth of learning and understanding that he took from [the Strategic Management] class.”
Lindberg, the associate director, operations, finance and contracts at BioDelivery Sciences International, began the Elon MBA program in fall 2015. During his time in the program, he was part of the winning Elon MBA case competition team, participated in the global engagement experience to Vietnam and Thailand, received a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Scholarship, and was inducted into the honor societies Sigma Iota Epsilon, Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
“On the 2017 Vietnam and Thailand study abroad trip, Jonathan was an enthusiastic traveler who took advantage of every opportunity to immerse himself in the Vietnamese and Thai cultures,” said Robert Moorman, Frank S. Holt Jr. Professor of Business Leadership. “On every business visit and cultural tour, Jonathan soaked in the lessons, asked the right questions, and helped everyone put the ideas in perspective.”
Lindberg received his bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business administration from Elon in 2004.
The dinner also recognized the students who were inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Sigma Iota Epsilon honor societies this year.
Previous Behrman Award recipients in attendance were Coleman Rich G’93, Elke Ruggebar G’96, Derek Robinson G’03, Marty Blevins G’11 and Jessica Townsend G’15.
