The United Way of Alamance County has presented its Bill Vestal Chairman’s Award to Tammy Cobb, assistant director for community partnerships in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement.
The award, which was presented at the nonprofit organization’s annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 30, goes to a person who has gone above and beyond in their service to United Way. Its namesake served United Way in many capacities including campaign chairman and president of the board, with the award named for Vestal in 2012.
In honoring Cobb, the United Way noted the role that Cobb plays in introducing the United Way to coworkers, community members, Elon students and anyone she comes in contact with. Cobb was praised for creating Educator’s United, an event that brought together leaders from Elon University, Alamance-Burlington School System and Alamance County Community College to discuss the future of education in Alamance County.
“Tammy Cobb’s career in service work is something to be admired and honored,” said Heidi Norwick, president of the United Way of Alamance County. “She connects people, students, faculty and community members in an intentional way that supports and honors all members for their contributions and efforts.”
Norwick said she is proud and privileged to work with Cobb, calling her “one of my most treasured colleagues and go-to people when community problem-solving work needs to get done.”
