Friends, family and coworkers gathered in the Sacred Space in the Numen Lumen Pavilion to honor the life of Anton Downey, Aramark’s chef de cuisine in Clohan Hall who was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Saturday.
Downey, 46, had worked with Elon Dining for 18 years in a variety of roles around the campus.
During the gathering of friends, people recounted his ever-present smile, his sense of humor and his caring nature. Downey was known as a true “people person” who found what amounted to a second family at Elon.
He was remembered for his “zest for life” and the personal connections he made with coworkers, faculty, staff and students around the university and Elon community.
