The department's winter show written by Christine Evans and directed by Kim Shively returns for spring term performances in Roberts Studio Theatre, Arts West.
The Department of Performing Arts is presenting “Trojan Barbie,” a feminist re-imagining of “Trojan Women, the classic anti-war play by Euripedes penned by contemporary playwright Christine Evans and directed by Kim Shively, assistant professor of performing arts.
Past and present violently collide when Lotte, an English tourist who repairs dolls, is captured while on a tour of current-day Troy and flung back into the ancient camp of Euripedes’ Trojan Women. “Trojan Barbie” explores the timeless themes of conflict and loss in this sharply witty, compassionate and accessible adaptation of the Greek classic. The work features the melding of mythic and modern worlds through tragedy, comedy, dance and Barbie dolls.
Not suitable for audiences under 13.
Spring Term performances run Feb. 5-8 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. All performances are at Roberts Studio Theatre, Scott Studios at Arts West.
