Brian Lyons receives Emerald Literati Award

The associate professor of management’s paper on peer reporting policies was recognized as one of the most impressive pieces of work published by the Journal of Managerial Psychology in 2017.

An article co-authored by Brian Lyons, associate professor of management in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, has been selected by the Journal of Managerial Psychology editorial team as “Highly Commended” in the 2018 Emerald Literati Awards.

Co-authored by Lyons and Nathan Bowling, professor of psychology at Wright State University, the article, “On the effectiveness of peer reporting policies,” examines the effectiveness of peer reporting policies on counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs). It was published in Volume 32, Issue 8 of the Journal of Managerial Psychology. This journal has an acceptance rate of 15 percent and a 5-year impact factor of 2.10.

The article was judged on six areas: internationality; diversity; support for scholarly research; encouragement of applied research (impact); commitment to high quality scholarship; and a desire to ensure reader, author and customer experience is the best it can be.

Lyons joined Elon’s faculty in 2014 after three years at Wright State University and four years at Fresno State. His research interests involve recruitment, selection, counterproductive work and off-duty behavior, and leadership effectiveness. He received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2016 and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2017.

Prior to entering academia, Lyons conducted human resources-related research for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the American Institutes for Research in Washington, D.C. He earned his doctorate in organizational studies from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
