The accounting alumna presented her undergraduate research project to accounting professors and researchers at this conference hosted in National Harbor, Maryland.
Elon alumna Christina Byrd ’18 shared her Love Award for Excellence in Business Leadership research project during the 2018 American Accounting Association annual meeting.
Byrd’s project, “The Effect of VITA Participation on Student Empathy,” examined how involvement in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program impacts volunteers’ ability to effectively understand others’ situations.
Byrd presented her work during the meeting’s Faculty and Student Collaboration session. Susan Anderson, professor of accounting, mentored Byrd throughout the research process.
After graduating with degrees in accounting and finance, Byrd worked with RSM as a summer tax intern and will begin the master’s of accounting program at N.C. State University this fall. She plans to join RSM full time after completing the program.
