Other events slated for this week will take place as campus operations and classes resume.
Elon University continued its return to normal operations on Monday as students, faculty and staff arrived back on campus, with classes to resume Tuesday.
Hurricane Florence, which devastated the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina during the past several days, had much less impact on Elon, but did lead to the cancelation of a number of previously scheduled events. The university is now in the process of rescheduling these postponed events for later in the academic year. Among the events canceled due to the storm:
Common Reading Lecture with author Kristen Green: Green had been scheduled to deliver a lecture on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and participate in question-and-answer sessions with students. Her lecture and Q&A sessions will be rescheduled for spring semester.
Elon Law Distinguished Leadership Lecture with Alan Dershowitz: Scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13, this event featuring world-renowned attorney Alan Dershowitz will likely be rescheduled for later this fall.
Elon University Call to Honor: An Elon tradition, this ceremony originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13, instills in first-year Elon students the virtue of Elon’s Honor Code. It will be rescheduled for later this fall.
Elon Athletics: The hurricane caused the cancelation or postponement of a host of Elon Phoenix contests, including Elon Football’s planned game against William & Mary on Saturday, Sept. 15. Elon men’s soccer, which saw a number of matches canceled, added one against UNC-Greensboro for Tuesday, Sept. 18. Elon volleyball, which also saw several matches canceled, added a match against UNC for Tuesday, Sept. 18. Stay tuned to E-net and the Elon Athletics website for updates on rescheduled games.
Collaborations Quartet: Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, this concert featuring Elon faculty has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium.
Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off Festival: Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18, but postponed, this event sponsored by Elon’s El Centro de Español to launch the month-long celebration of Hispanic culture and heritage will be rescheduled.
