The 7 p.m. match at Schar Center against the ACC school was added after matches against Duke, Kansas, High Point and UNCG were canceled last week due to Hurricane Florence.
Elon University volleyball has added a match against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday, Sept. 18 after matches set for last week were canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
Elon will take on the Tar Heels at 7 p.m. in Schar Center looking to add another win to its 8-2 record. Elon started off the season with seven straight wins and championships in the Charlotte Invitational and Phoenix Classic before dropping two matches in the recent Wake Forest Invitational.
A Sept. 12 match against Duke University and three matches that were part of the Tussle in the Triad were canceled as Hurricane Florence approached the North Carolina coast. The addition of Tuesday night’s UNC match helps make up for the four canceled matches.
Tuesday night is the eighth meeting between the two schools, and the first since 1979. UNC owns a 4-3 lead in the series.
During Elon’s last match, a win over Georgia Southern, senior Kam Terry came just shy of tying the program record for kills in a match with 32.
The added UNC match comes as classes resume at Elon following the hurricane, which had been forecast to move directly into central North Carolina before it shifted to soak southeast and southern North Carolina and South Carolina. Communities along the coasts of North Carolina and South Carolina are recovering from devastating rains and high winds.
