A recent edition of NC SPIN, the weekly public affairs program hosted by Tom Campbell and appearing on WUNC, featured Jason Husser, associate professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll.
Husser joined other political scientists from around the state to discuss the upcoming mid-term election on Nov. 6 when N.C. voters will head to the polls to select state and federal representatives as well as to weigh in on six proposed state constitutional amendments.
Husser noted that during this mid-term election it is particularly difficult to gauge voter attitudes and whether Democrats will regain control of power in Congress and state legislatures, in part because of the challenges in determining whether voters are more likely to head to the polls than in previous off-year elections. “I think there’s some evidence that maybe we are not seeing a ‘blue wave’ but maybe more of a ‘blue stream,'” Husser said during the discussion, which aired Oct. 26. “That said, determining likely voters right now is almost impossible. We oftentimes see people say, ‘yes, I’m going to turn out to vote and I voted in past elections, but it’s still really difficult.”
