Lauren Kearns, professor of dance and chair of the Department of Performing Arts, spent the past week guest teaching and presenting her practice-based research in Europe.
Kearns taught a two-day workshop on “Somatics in Action” based on her book at Dance Ireland in Dublin, the national development organization and representative body for the professional dance community in Ireland.
Kearns then taught “Core Activation” at the 28th annual International Association of Dance Medicine and Science conference in Helsinki, Finland. The IADMS conference brought together more than 400 dance health experts from the world, including scientists, researchers, educators, physicians, allied health professionals and students.
Professor Joyce Davis and Assistant Professor Matt Wittstein of the Department of Exercise Science also presented at IADMS. Dance Science and Exercise Science alumna Corinne Kenny ’18 presented her undergraduate research on “Dance-Specific Balance Confidence Measurement for Injuries” at the poster session.
