The Elon community is invited to the Sacred Space at 4 p.m. on Friday to bless Shabbat and remember those killed Oct. 27 in the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Elon students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to the Sacred Space at 4 p.m. on Friday to bless Shabbat as a multi-faith community.
The special Solidarity Shabbat gathering is an opportunity for members of the Elon community to join together and stand against hate. Those attending will have an opportunity to honor the memories of the victims of the shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue on Oct. 27, with the gathering one of many across the country and around the world on Friday.
The gathering will be led by Rabbi Sandra Lawson, associate chaplain for Jewish life, with attendees lighting candles and saying traditional prayers to welcome the Sabbath together. Campus leaders, students, alumni and community members of all faith traditions are invited to share their reflections and feelings about the recent tragic events.
All are invited to gather in the McBride Gathering Space following the service for appetizers.
Additionally, the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life is collecting letters and notes of support for members of the Jewish community. Those interested in participating can bring what they’ve written to the desk of the Numen Lumen Pavilion and leave them for Sarah Jane McDonald, the multifaith intern coordinating the campuswide project.
