The projects and Holly Hodge, director of interior design, were honored in the recent competition for the Association of University Interior Designers.
Two new Elon facilities and the university’s director of interior design recently took home awards from the 2018 Design Competition for the Association of University Interior Designers.
Sankey Hall, which was just dedicated on Friday, Nov. 2, took first place in the New Construction category of the annual design competition. Following it in second place was Schar Center, the 5,100-seat convocation center that opened this year and will play host to the first home games of Elon’s women’s and men’s basketball teams this week.
Honored for her work on both projects was Holly Hodge, Elon’s director of university design. Hodge said that the accolades are recognition of the team effort by the Elon design team including Brad Moore, Tari Maynor-Brady, Jody Booth, Jenny Gonzalez and Angie Gilmore.
“Their attention to details, innovative ideas, and love for design radiate throughout the buildings,” Hodge said. “I am very lucky to be a part of an amazingly talented design team with the support of and vision of Elon University.”
Hodge said that Sankey Hall was inspired by a “Google-esque” design with the use of modern materials, innovative design, large-scale graphics, contemporary furniture and bold “pops of color.” It’s a facility that is “made for collaboration and engaged learning.”
The intent with Schar Center was to create “a branded, state-of-the-art facility and home for our students, faculty, staff and the Elon community that is a home for the Phoenix,” Hodge said.
