Seniors Stefanie Milovic and Janay Tyson won the sales competition for Elon students.
The team of strategic communications majors Stefanie Milovic ’19 and Janay Tyson ’19 placed first in the 2018 Amica Elon Sales Challenge, a competition designed for Elon students to develop their professional selling skills.
Max Pivonka ’19, a finance and marketing double major, and Ben Nelson ’19, a marketing major, were named the runner-up team.
During October, Amica Mutual Insurance Company partnered with Elon’s Chandler Family Professional Sales Center to offer the competition, tasking students to develop a recruitment pitch to market Amica’s associate adjuster position to college students. Teams were judged on a sales presentation document and a recorded sales role play.
“The most interesting aspect of the Amica Elon Sales Challenge was seeing how we could apply the skills we are learning in our courses to a real-world scenario,” Tyson said. “We assumed this would be more business-focused and were unsure how we could relate our expertise to the challenge. However, it ended up working in our favor. I enjoyed being able to think creatively and strategically to figure out the best tactics and solutions needed to solve Amica’s challenge.”
The first-place team was awarded $1,300 and the second-place team received $700. The winners were selected by Amica employees.
