The segment created for nearly four dozen TEGNA television stations aired in multiple markets around the country.
A recent segment for TEGNA’s “Verify” series on online shopping featured the insights of Hal Vincent, lecturer in communications and faculty director of Live Oak.
The two-minute piece featured extensive commentary by Vincent about how advertisers use technology to influence consumer behavior, the prevalence of “drop-shipping” sites and the omnipresence of “fake ads.”
Vincent explained how the use of browser “cookies” helps advertisers offer targeted ads and offers to consumers. “Advertisers are using it to offer me brands or products that might be beneficial or that I’d enjoy, the same way a news organization might be offering me news stories that align with my interest,” Vincent said.
