Jason Husser, associate professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll, was invited by WFMY News, the local CBS affiliate, to offer commentary on the shutdown and its impact on the 2020 presidential election.
Local CBS affiliate WFMY News recently tapped Jason Husser, associate professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll, to offer his insights into the impacts from the ongoing federal government shutdown.
During the Jan. 11 segment, Husser talked about how workers would be receiving no pay on the first federal government payday since the shutdown began on Dec. 22. "The federal government contributes about one out of five dollars to the U.S. economy, so we are going to see wide-ranging impacts now that people are expecting money and it's not happening," Husser said.
Husser noted during the five-minute discussion that immigration is becoming an increasingly important issue to voters, particularly as they look ahead to the 2020 presidential election and how it could play out in North . "It does look like a majority of Trump voters in North Carolina want the (border) wall to happen," Husser said. "Even though it may be unpopular with the country as a whole, the coalition that will reelect the president potentially are in support of it, so he's made a lot of ground there."
