In the weeks leading up to its annual showcase, Cinelon Productions received about 40 submissions from student filmmakers studying at Elon University and around North Carolina. The student-run production company officially selected 15 films to screen at the Cinelon Showcase, and all are welcome to the public screening on campus on Thursday, May 2.
Prior to the film screenings at 6:30 p.m. in Turner Theatre, members of “E-Talk,” ESTV’s student-run entertainment show, will host a red-carpet event beginning at 5:30 p.m. The structure of the festival is in two parts: two 45-minute segments. The first session is rated PG and the second is rated PG-13.
In total, 12 fiction films will be screened, including two Cinelon original pieces and two sponsored films, as well as one documentary and two music videos. Other successful student films like “Knock Knock” and “Drag Queen Storytime" will also be screened.
Cameron Wolfslayer ’21, president of Cinelon Productions, said the event is a great opportunity to showcase the hard work of many different student filmmakers.
“Students that have been working on projects this year have the opportunity to premiere their work for friends, family and professors on the big screen,” she said.
Submissions came from students studying at Elon, the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
“Getting submissions from UNCSA is interesting because it allows us to see what other film students in our state are our creating, especially students at a conservatory,” said Mallory Siegenthaler ’21, Cinelon's director of design and social media.
Audience members will also be able to cast their vote on the Audience Choice Award at the conclusion of the festival. The winner will be announced the following day on Cinelon’s social media platforms, including its Facebook account.
