The ranking by Zippia, a career services website, draws upon federal data in rating Elon among the top universities in the country for employment 10 years after they first enrolled.
Elon University has been named by Zippia as North Carolina's leading university for preparing students for employment. The career services website based its 2019 rankings on data from the federal government's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
The IPEDS data estimates that 94.5 percent of Elon graduates were employed 10 years after they first enrolled.
The top North Carolina colleges for employment 10 years after enrollment (IPEDS data):
1. Elon University – 94.5%
2. Johnson C. Smith University – 93%
3. Wake Forest University – 92.7%
4. Duke University – 92.7%
This is the third year that Zippia has produced its "Best College in Each State For Getting a Job" ranking. According to the company, "while you’d hope that every college education nets you the opportunity to play for a team in the working world, the fact of the matter is that the college you went to has a big impact on your chances of getting a job. Some colleges offer majors and internships that help you fit right into a job after graduating, while others leave you in a jarring state of “what’s next."
A survey of Elon's Class of 2018 found that nine months after graduation, 94 percent were employed, in graduate school, completing a fellowship or working for a service organization. Among the Class of 2018, 89 percent had completed an internship during their time at Elon, and 67 percent participated in internships that led to job offers.
