Tickets for the event during this year's Homecoming festivities go on sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 23 for Elon students and at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7 for members of the public.
The Student Union Board has selected prolific American singer T-Pain to headline the 2019 Homecoming Concert to be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Schar Center.
The concert is among a lineup of events during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend 2019 to be held Nov. 1-3, with thousands expected to return to Elon’s campus to catch up with their fellow members of the Elon family, to celebrate reunion milestones and to cheer on the Phoenix in Rhodes Stadium as they take on William & Mary.
T-Pain broke through in August 2005 with the release of his self-produced, self-written hit “I’m Sprung,” which rose to the top-10 in the pop and R&B/hip-hop charts. Following the success of the debut single, he released the album, “Rappa Ternt Sanga” in December 2005, which produced another top-10 hit on multiple Billboard charts. Singles from the album earned T-Pain RIAA platinum certifications, with the album eventually going gold.
Following the success of his debut album, T-Pain followed with three more albums during the next five years including other chart-topping hits and collaborations with other top-tier artists.
This is the second year Elon will use Schar Center to host popular artists during Homecoming, with 2018 seeing Jesse McCartney, Sean Kingston and special guest Quinn XCII take the stage.
“With our move into the Schar Center and as a result of the feedback we got from last year’s concert, SUB knew we wanted to bring an artist to campus that was different than any other show we have done before,” said Erin Eady, performance chair for the Student Union Board. “Through the results collected through a survey, we were able to understand what type of concert experience our students want to have. We were able to narrow the list down to a show that brings together various music genres and highlights the caliber of artist that students are looking for.”
