The grant supports modern pedagogy with a direct emphasis on real data wrangling and visualization techniques using modern computational tools in introductory statistics courses.
Hwayeon Ryu, assistant professor of mathematics, was awarded $17,405 from the Mathematics Association of America with pass-through funds from the National Science Foundation for her project, “Professional Development Emphasizing Data-Centered Resources and Pedagogies for Instructors of Undergraduate Introductory Statistics (StatPREP).
StatPREP strives to provide professional development for faculty teaching introductory statistics, particularly two-year college instructors, through a series of two-year regional workshops and follow-up activities. The sites are called hubs and each hub has a hub leader.
Ryu already hosted the StatPREP workshops at the University of Hartford during the summers of 2018 and 2019. Now at Elon, she will continue to work with StatPREP, disseminating information and results.
