The annual Veterans Day Observance ceremony pays tribute to members of the Elon community who have proudly served their country.
This Veterans Day, Elon will recognize and honor the veterans of the Elon community for their service as members of the United States military.
On Nov. 11, Elon will host the annual Veterans Day Observance ceremony from 10:55 to 11:30 a.m. in the LaRose Digital Theater at Koury Business Center.
“This ceremony has become part of our history, much like the history embodied by the veterans you see seated in the front of the auditorium,” said Professor of Management Matt Valle following the 2018 ceremony. Valle, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and former Air Force pilot, serves on the ceremony’s organizing committee.
This video shows an excerpt from Valle’s remarks during the 2018 ceremony:
Each veteran in attendance at the Veterans Day Observance ceremony will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience during a Roll Call. The audience will also hear a keynote speech by Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Education Mary Kay Hannah.
Hannah was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army in May 1985 and served as a military police officer until 1999. Hannah graduated from the U.S. Army-Baylor University graduate program in physical therapy with a master’s degree in physical therapy in 2001 and later earned her doctorate in physical therapy at Baylor. Hannah practiced physical therapy as an Army therapist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg and with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan. After 23 years, she retired from the Army and practiced orthopedic and sports private practice in Apex, N.C., from 2010 to 2017.
Hannah has been a board-certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy since 2009 and orthopedic physical therapy since 2014. After serving as an adjunct instructor at Elon in various capacities from 2012 to 2016, she joined the Elon Doctor of Physical Therapy program as full-time faculty in the musculoskeletal curriculum in 2017.
