The award is presented annually by North Carolina Campus Compact to recognize a student leader at each school in the network for their commitment to community engagement.
Elon University sophomore Connor Jenkins has been recognized for outstanding leadership and service by North Carolina Campus Compact, a statewide network of colleges and universities that are committed to community engagement.
Jenkins is a recipient of the network’s Community Impact Student Award, which honors one student leader at each member school. The award recognizes students with a deep commitment to community involvement and the ability to inspire peers.
Jenkins is one of 22 students across the state to receive the 2019 award, joining more than 300 college students honored by the organization since the award was first presented in 2006.
Jenkins has been an active leader in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement during the past year. Despite his short tenure, his contribution as a Leader in Collaborative Service (LINCS) has been significant. Jenkins recruits and trains undergraduate volunteers from Elon to tutor non-traditional students in English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education courses at Alamance Community College.
In collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Technology staff, Jenkins participated in a video describing the volunteer opportunities at ACC, and has doubled the number of volunteers.
Mary Morrison leads Elon’s Kernodle Center and nominated Jenkins for the award. “Connor is recognized by other students and the professional staff as an exemplary role model.” Morrison said. “He richly deserves this recognition,”
