The below email was sent Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 12:20 p.m. to members of the Elon University campus community.
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
This message is an update to the incident south of campus reported to you earlier this morning.
The Town of Elon Police have released a statement indicating they are continuing their investigation, but confirmed two individuals injured by gunshot – one is being treated and one died en route to the hospital.
We have confirmed no students were involved in the incident.
Individuals with any additional information are asked to call the Elon Police Department at (336) 584-1301 or Crimestoppers at (336) 229-7100.
Since the Town of Elon Police believe there is no threat to campus, no additional university updates on this incident are planned unless there is new information to suggest an immediate cause for concern on campus.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
About 9:45 a.m. today (Wednesday), Town of Elon Police responded to a report of a shooting on Pinedale Drive in the Town of Elon, which is located west of Williamson Avenue near the Olde Forest Racquet Club, about three quarters of a mile southwest of The Station at Mill Point.
Two people were injured in the incident and taken to the hospital for treatment. They are not believed to be Elon students. Town of Elon Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the campus community.
Police are continuing their investigation and will provide additional information when it is available. This notice is being provided under the guidelines of the Clery Timely Warning Notice regulations.
