Actress Kelly Murtagh ’09 discusses ‘The Lovebirds,’ COVID-19

Elon alumna Kelly Murtagh '09 has a starring role in the new Netflix hit "The Lovebirds." She discussed the role, as well as the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on her life and career with The Advocate.

Louisiana daily newspaper The Advocate featured Elon alumna Kelly Murtagh ’09 in a recent profile piece that is part of a series on how Louisiana actors are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the article, Checking In: Actress Kelly Murtagh making home movies, music during pandemic, Murtagh answers a variety of questions from staff writer Judy Bergeron about COVID-19 and her acting career. Bergeron highlights Murtagh’s role in the Netflix original film “The Lovebirds” with Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani.

“They are two of the most talented, down-to-earth, intelligent, creative and kind people I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” Murtagh said. “I had also admired director Michael Showalter’s work and was so thrilled to get to meet him and work with him. He allowed us to improvise (which is one of my favorite things to do). It was magical to be able to watch Issa and Kumail work off one another and then to be able to jump in and do it alongside them.”
