Hwayeon Ryu elected an associate editor of the Mathematical Association of America journal FOCUS

An assistant professor of mathematics, Ryu will serve in the role for two years.

Assistant Professor Hwayeon Ryu of the Department of Mathematics has been elected an associate editor of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) journal FOCUS.

Ryu will serve in the role for two years starting July, 1 2020. The June/July 2020 issue of the journal officially announced the new Editorial Board. The journal noted her academic background as well as her research interests, which focus on mathematical modeling and the analysis of dynamical systems arising from other disciplines including biology, neuroscience and sociology.

The MAA is a professional society that focuses on mathematics accessible at the undergraduate level. Its mission is to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world, through Community, Inclusivity, Communication, and Teaching & Learning.

The MAA’s main journal FOCUS contains information about MAA activities, news about mathematics and the mathematical community, and lively articles about interesting new (or sometimes not so new) ideas in mathematics, mathematics education, and related areas.
