First Stop: Schar Center Health Check-In helps promote a healthy fall semester

The Schar Center will serve as a one-stop check-in center for all students, faculty and staff as they prepare for the start of fall semester.

A safe and healthy start to the semester at Elon University will include a stop at the Schar Center this year, with the convocation center serving as a one-stop check-in center for all students, faculty and staff as they prepare to begin a new academic year.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, the Schar Center will be hosting a Health Check-In for all members of the campus community. The check-in provides an opportunity to ensure students, faculty and staff have completed the required testing and training and to provide a Ready & Resilient Kit with items to promote a healthy campus.

“The Schar Center Health Check-In is just one way we’re working toward a healthy start to the semester,” said John Barnhill ’92, associate vice president for university advancement, who is overseeing the check-in process as part of the Ready & Resilient Committee. “We want all members of the campus community to be ready to work together to promote health and safety and to contribute to a successful year at Elon.”

For first-year students, time slots for Health Check-In and move-in are allocated across six sessions on Friday, Aug. 14, and Saturday, Aug. 15. Returning students living in residence halls have been assigned slots on Monday, Aug. 17. Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

All undergraduate and graduate students residing in university apartments and off-campus residences must also complete the screening process before classes begin during one of the times below:

  • Monday, Aug. 10, through Thursday, Aug. 13
    • 10 a.m. to noon.
    • 2 to 4 p.m.
    • 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 18
    • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (backup day for students, faculty, and staff)

Members of faculty and staff are asked to participate in the check-in during the following times:

  • Monday, Aug. 10, through Thursday, Aug. 13
    • 8 to 10 a.m.
    • Noon to 2 p.m.
    • 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 11 (additional early hours)
    • 6 to 8 a.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 18 will be a back-up day for all students, faculty and staff, with the check-in center open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff should not report to campus if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Instead, they should isolate themselves, seek medical consultation and follow the recommendations of their providers before coming to campus.

At the Schar Center Health Check-In, students and their family members as well as faculty and staff will be:

  • Required to bring and wear a face covering while they have their temperature checked
  • Receive their Ready & Resilient Kit, which includes an Elon face covering, hand sanitizer, tissues, information, thermometer and more, and board markers/eraser.

Elon staff at the Check-In Center will verify:

The university is communicating with early arrivals, graduate programs and all students/parents separately about their check-in times and creating workable options so that groups like the Law School can participate in Greensboro instead of at Schar Center.
