President Book’s message to students on the opening of the academic year

President Connie Ledoux Book delivered a video message to students as the new academic year prepares to get underway.

Members of the Elon community,

As we launch the 2020-2021 academic year, our newly staged campus is filled with the typical energy and excitement of a new beginning. This year it is also filled with resolve to meet the challenges that lie ahead. We are confident because of the extraordinary efforts this summer by faculty and staff to prepare the campus and the curriculum for the beginning of a new era in higher education. At the same time, we have developed extensive new health policies and protocols that put safety always at the center of our campus operations.

We come together again as a community because in-person, engaged learning is the most effective way to learn and what Elon is all about. In the days and weeks ahead, I ask that you embrace this learning experience that is grounded in the realities we face together:

  • Learn what you need to do to protect yourself and others
  • Learn about your own strength in the face of COVID-19
  • Learn how you can be a leader in ensuring a safe environment
  • And learn and grow in your studies so you can prosper in a world that will need you and your classmates.

Thank you for keeping Elon a healthy, learning-centered community. In this time of great challenge, Elon will be the beacon of hope for the brighter days I am confident are ahead.

In the spirit of resilience and going forward to new,

Connie Ledoux Book
President
