Assistant Professor Beth Evans along with Professor Stephen Bailey, professor of physical therapy education and Associate Professor Srikant Vallabhajosula, all from the Department of Physical Therapy Education have been awarded $9,984 from the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina for their project, “Addressing Fall Risk in Lung Cancer Survivors.”
Individuals with histories of pulmonary disease and cancer tend to be at an increased risk of falling. Such falls can have serious consequences, negatively affecting overall health and quality of life. The Department of Physical Therapy Education in the Elon University School of Health Sciences is committed to responding to the health care needs of the individuals in our society. Therefore, this Access Grant will enable them to design and implement a novel approach of using interactive and guided fall risk screenings and interventions in a virtual environment, which will increase its accessibility to lung cancer survivors across the state of North Carolina.
