UPDATED 5:45 P.M. — This update from Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley provides information about a power outage on main campus shortly before 11 a.m. caused by high winds in the area.
UPDATED 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29
—
Power has been restored to campus facilities.
Belk Library will remain open for regular hours this evening.
Because of the shifts already made with staffing and food preparation, Campus Dining will operate from the same facilities this evening: Clohan, Qdoba, Acorn, and Fountain Market. All campus dining facilities will resume regular hours and operations tomorrow.
Staff and fitness appointments have already been canceled in Campus Recreation and Wellness, so the Koury Athletic Center facilities will close at 6 p.m. and resume regular operations tomorrow.
Thank you for your patience today. And special thanks to the outstanding team in Physical Plant and Campus Safety and Police for their many efforts throughout the day.

We will send the community another update at 6:30 p.m. this evening, or once we have a more firm estimate for power restoration, whichever occurs first.
Shortly before 11:00 this morning, several buildings on main campus experienced a power outage as a result of the remnants of tropical storm Zeta moving through the area with wind gusts and rain. The estimate for a return to power is currently 1-4 hours.
As a result, in-person classes on main campus will be canceled and affected offices will be closed beginning at 12:00 pm today. Because many undergraduate students living on campus or in the nearby area do not have power or wi-fi, undergraduate online courses will also be canceled today. Faculty members should communicate directly with students about any alternative arrangements for course material and deadlines.
Staff and faculty in affected areas can depart campus when it is safe to do so. Wind gusts could cause fallen limbs and debris, so individuals should be careful when walking or driving across campus. Traffic lights are affected in the nearby area; treat intersections as four-ways stops and exercise caution while driving.
Essential personnel will maintain campus operations for students. McEwen Dining is the only dining location affected by the outage – other campus dining options remain open. COVID-19 testing in Alumni Gym today will continue as scheduled. Remaining course registration times scheduled for today will be postponed; the Office of the Registrar will communicate directly with affected students.
Law and Health Sciences facilities have power and will continue classes and full operations.
