The greenway runs from Elon's campus to downtown Burlington using newly-built paths and designated portions of existing roadways.
The partners that made possible a new greenway from Elon University’s campus to downtown Burlington celebrated its opening with video offering a birds-eye view of the route.
The greenway was completed earlier this year with support from the City of Burlington, the Town of Elon, Impact Alamance, LabCorp and Elon University. The nearly four-mile route leaves the Elon campus on Front Street, with a new 10-foot-wide multi-use path starting near Loy Farm. The route follows Briarcliff Road, Canterbury Street and Woodland Avenue before transitioning to West Davis Street, which it follows into downtown Burlington.
“Our communities are more connected than ever before,” President Connie Ledoux Book said in the video commemorating the opening of the greenway.
The new greenway was included in the Burlington Greenways and Bikeways Plan completed in 2017. The purpose of the plan is to create a connected and comprehensive system of greenways and bikeways that enhance the quality of life throughout Burlington.
