The National Weather Service forecasts some freezing rain during the morning hours in the Elon region.
A brief period of light snow or sleet is possible Sunday morning before changing over to freezing rain. The freezing rain will gradually turn to all rain through the late morning and into midday.
Freezing rain will result in ice accumulations of one-tenth of an inch, with some localized higher amounts possible. Plan on slippery road conditions and be especially careful when driving or walking on bridges or elevated surfaces.
At this time, Elon has not altered any campus operations. Physical Plant crews were on campus during the early morning hours checking conditions and addressing any potential slippery areas.
Precipitation will taper off from west to east during the afternoon and evening. However, light freezing rain/drizzle could re-develop over the NW Piedmont early Monday morning, resulting in some patchy slick spots. Monday and Monday evening, central NC will see scattered showers of mixed rain and snow. No snow accumulations are expected.
