Mid-semester ‘staycation’ this week offers a range of on-campus activities for Elon students

Classes will not be held on Tuesday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 17, as a break during the middle of Spring Semester.

Elon students taking a break from classes on Tuesday and Wednesday will find a whole host of activities around campus designed to take their minds off of mid-terms and take advantage of the warmer weather.

The university adjusted its calendar this year to offer multiple break days throughout Spring Semester rather than a week-long spring break during March. To help promote the health and safety of the university and the local community, students are strongly discouraged from traveling out of the area during these back-to-back break days as well as other break days scheduled this semester.

But no classes doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do around Elon during this brief “staycation.” Residence Life, Student Involvement and other organizations around campus have lined up activities and opportunities for students to take a deep breath and relax midway through the semester.

Student Involvement is hosting Community on the Commons events on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each afternoon, Adirondack chairs will be spread out to create a space where students can hang out and listen to live music from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday’s event will be hosted at Lakeside Plaza. Wednesday’s event will include a Pelican’s SnoBall cart and take place at either Lakeside Plaza or Young Commons, depending on the weather.

Elon student works on project in the Maker Hub

The Maker Hub is sponsoring a Hub Club meeting on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. This is a casual get-together with fellow makers that will be held at the Maker Hub Downtown. The meeting will start with a show and tell and troubleshooting session where makers are encouraged to bring in projects they have finished, projects they are working on, or just ideas about what to do in the future. This group discussion is a great time for users to brainstorm and ask for help on anything they are working on. Then there will be a feature presentation on a light stick project by Jakob Reuter. The meeting will finish up with work time where users are encouraged to make progress on projects and collaborate with other makers. Space is limited and students can register here.

On Wednesday, March 17, Elon Outdoors will be hosting S’mores with Outdoors from 9 to 10 p.m. on the Koury Athletic Center S’mores Patio.
