The Washington Center Sets School of Record Partnership with Elon University

The agreement enables students from non-affiliated schools to receive academic credit from Elon for completing TWC’s Academic Internship Program

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), the largest and most established student internship program in Washington, D.C., and Elon University, a top-100 national university recognized as a leader in experiential learning and student success, have established a School of Record partnership that will go into effect for the Fall 2021 semester.

The five-year agreement extends the access of TWC’s flagship Academic Internship Program (AIP) to students from colleges and universities in the United States and internationally who are not enrolled at one of the 400 institutions currently affiliated with TWC. The experience allows students to develop essential competencies, gain experience and build a professional network alongside hundreds of peers from across the country and the world in one of the world’s most influential cities.

The School of Record partnership with Elon University presents an opportunity for students outside TWC’s network of partner schools to access a high-impact living, learning and working experience, and receive an Elon University transcript for up to 15 academic credit hours upon completion. The partnership does not alter any of TWC’s agreements with its existing partner-affiliated colleges and universities.

“The Washington Center wanted a School of Record partner that shared our values on experiential education and found it in Elon University,” said Dr. Kelly Eaton, chief academic officer, The Washington Center. “Elon has thoroughly vetted and approved TWC’s curriculum. We are thrilled to offer a greater population of college students access to the Academic Internship Program through this agreement, and to have those students’ achievements recognized by Elon University with an academic transcript.”

TWC and Elon University have been affiliated partners since 1988. To date, 539 students from Elon University have participated in TWC’s programs. Elon President Emeritus Leo M. Lambert serves on the TWC board of trustees.

”We are grateful for the opportunity to expand Elon’s long and mutually beneficial partnership with The Washington Center,” said Elon University President Connie Ledoux Book. “As the School of Record, we want to encourage students from all colleges and universities – studying in majors across the curriculum – to take advantage of TWC’s unique learning experiences in our nation’s capital.”
