On May 5 from 4 to 5:15 p.m., the Center for Design Thinking and the Center for Leadership are hosting Elon’s 2021 Design Thinking and Leadership Showcase. This year’s session features pedagogical innovations from across two 2021 interdisciplinary faculty learning communities, allowing participants to hear authentic stories of leadership and acquire learning strategies for individualized goals.
The Center for Design Thinking and the Center for Leadership are hosting Elon’s 2021 Design Thinking and Leadership Showcase on May 5 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. This year’s session will be held virtually and will feature pedagogical innovations from across two 2021 interdisciplinary faculty learning communities, allowing participants to hear authentic stories of leadership and acquire learning strategies for individualized goals.
Members of the Elon community and community partners are invited to the 2021 showcase.“Members from other institutions will also be attending to hear real stories of leadership and design thinking pedagogical application across different disciplines,” explains Tracey Thurnes, the Curricular Catalyst for the Center for Design Thinking and co-leader of the Design Thinking community of practice. “We wanted to create an opportunity for individuals who are engaging in this work on other campuses and in the community to learn, network, and collaborate with each other.”
The showcase involves interactive workshops with a variety of community partners, where they will share real-world leadership experiences and provide methods for shifting design thinking teachings into application.
One of the goals is to help participants apply these methods to their own projects.
Thurnes and Danielle Lake, director of Design Thinking, and Elena Kennedy, Leadership Faculty Fellow, worked to “create a space where members of the interdisciplinary communities could showcase the innovative work they are doing, using design thinking and leadership pedagogy in their classrooms and programs,” adds Thurnes.
