The Association of University Interior Designers competition is an annual event that university designers nationwide participate in, where their work is reviewed and critiqued by professional practicing interior designers in the field.
Two Elon staff members were recognized by the Association of University Interior Designers at the 2021 Design Competition Awards, a national competition among university designers where their work is reviewed and critiqued by professional practicing interior designers.
Jenny Gonzalez, interior designer, and Holly Hodge, director of interior design at Elon, were awarded for their work in helping further Elon’s reputation as one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses.
Gonzalez placed second in the Renovations Under $50,000 category with the newly created E-Sports space inside of Global Commons.
Gonzalez also came in second place in the Renovations from $150,000 to $500,000 category with the renovations to the El Centro space.
In the Renovations over $500,000, Hodge placed third for the improvements made to the second floor of the Moseley Center.
The design team added to its list of accolades being recognized at the IIDA Carolinas Designworks 2021 competition after Raleigh-based architecture firm LS3P submitted the work done for The Inn at Elon. The Elon design team received honorable mention in the hospitality category for the four-star, 80-room boutique hotel.
“A native ‘Elon oak’ which was harvested on site is used in feature elements throughout the interior. The design embodies the University’s environment and culture and draws from the metaphor of the oak tree: like acorns seeding the future, 100% of hotel profits fund University scholarships,” the IIDA Carolinas wrote about The Inn at Elon design for its honorable mention placement.
“The nice thing about this recognition is that it validates what we all know – and that is the Interior Designers on our campus are producing amazing, transforming and award winning interiors for the campus community,” said Brad Moore, university architect and director of planning, design and construction at Elon.
“The projects are compared with other university interior design projects across the country and winners are selected by their peers,” Moore added. “Therefore we truly have some of the most talented professionals working here at Elon and it shows in the incredible diverse and beautiful results that we see in our interior spaces.”
