Ana Herrera, second grade Spanish immersion teacher and second-year Master of Education candidate at Elon, presented her global action project at the 2022 SXSW EDU Conference in Austin, Texas alongside her cohort, Ashley Solesbee, program manager at Participate Learning.
Their presentation, “Global Action Projects Can Change the World,” focuses on how to use the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Participate Learning Global Competencies to empower students to become global leaders who can change the world. During their presentation, they shared ready-to-use global teaching resources and frameworks to prepare students to feel connected and take action to make the world a better place.
Herrera is a second grade dual language teacher at Bethany Elementary School at Rockingham County Schools. Herrera is an educator from Bogotá, Colombia. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She has been a teacher for more than ten years and has worked with children and adults. She is a Participate Learning cultural ambassador and is passionate about creating a brave environment for students to build knowledge and explore the environment starting from their interests and inquiries. She is convinced that empowering all children through education is essential to change the world.
