A recent article in The Burlington Times-News about learning losses by public-school students during the COVID-19 pandemic included insights from Ann Bullock, dean of the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education.
The article focused on a new study of public-school test scores by students before and after the pandemic. The study found a drop in scores among Alamance County students that was worse than the state as a whole.
“As much as teachers worked and tried to make learning flexible, COVID itself has taken a huge hit on learning because of multiple factors,” Bullock said in the article.
Bullock told reporter Isaac Groves that how students recover could depend upon how schools focus on essential parts of the curriculum and how well students respond to being back in schools.
