NBC News cites Toddie Peters in report on faith leaders and abortion rights

The May 5 piece by NBC News focused on faith leaders who are speaking up about abortion rights.

A recent report by NBC News on how faith leaders are speaking up in support of abortion rights in the wake of a leaked U.S. Supreme Court opinion that could overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision includes insights from Professor of Religious Studies Toddie Peters.

Rebecca Todd Peters, professor of religious studies

Peters, an ordained minister, is the author of “Trust Women: A Progressive Christian Argument for Reproductive Justice,” her 2018 book that explores issues of abortion and reproductive justice including both moral arguments related to pregnancy termination, voluntary motherhood, and pregnancy.

In the NBC News report, Peters notes that by introducing the concept of reproductive justice, Black feminists ““reframed [abortion] within the broader context of a whole lot of moral issues related to reproduction and women’s bodies and sexuality,” including raising children and dealing with domestic violence.”
