The Phoenix solidified its top 25 ranking with the double-overtime victory over the Spiders in Rhodes Stadium on Saturday, Oct.1.
Coming off of a 30-27 double overtime win over No. 17/22 Richmond Saturday, the Elon University football team continued to climb the polls Monday. Elon earned a No. 14 ranking in the Stats Perform Top 25 poll and a No. 18 national ranking in the AFCA Coaches poll.
At 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in CAA Football play, the Elon team is one of six Colonial Athletic Association teams in the top 25 in at least one of the two polls. The Phoenix is the second-highest ranked CAA team in the Stats Perform poll (behind No. 6 Delaware) and the fourth-highest in the AFCA Coaches poll (behind No. 6 Delaware, No. 13 Villanova and No. 17 William & Mary).
Elon entered the polls a week ago at No. 23 in both. The Phoenix has not been ranked as high as No. 14 since being ranked No. 12 late in the 2018 season. Elon has been ranked higher than No. 14 just 24 times in the 23-year history of the program.
With the victory over Richmond, Elon has won four straight games since a 42-31 loss to Vanderbilt to open the season. The Phoenix has won six straight games against FCS competition dating back to last year.
No. 14/18 Elon will be at home on Saturday, Oct. 8, as the Phoenix host Towson University at 2 p.m. The Towson Tigers enter the game at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in CAA Football play.
