The accomplished Elon performing arts alumna has the starring role in the new holiday movie that aired Sunday, Nov. 27, on Hallmark Channel.
Ginna Claire Mason ’13 has moved from the stage to the screen with a starring role this season in “A Holiday Spectacular,” which debuted on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, Nov. 27.
The new holiday musical set in 1958 casts Mason as Maggie, an heiress from Philadelphia who pursues her dream of dancing on stage with the famed Rockettes of Radio City Music Hall during their “Christmas Spectacular” show. Along with plenty of Rockettes, Mason shares the screen with fellow Broadway star Derek Klena and movie legend Ann-Margret.
Leading up to the movie’s premier, Mason joined JoJo Carmichael and Sydney Mesher from the Rockettes to answer questions about the film and also sat down for an interview with NewsChannel5 in Nashville, Tennessee (Mason is from Brentwood, Tennessee) to talk about the role.
“When I walked in with the other actors into Radio City, the girls just started clapping for us,” Mason told Rhonda Roberts with NewsChannel5. “The Rockettes are their own incredible, sisterhood. They work so hard and they support and encourage each other. To be welcomed into that and to get a glimpse of how hard they work, and how much they love and care for each other — it was really special and I felt like I left with this whole new family of friends.”
Mason found acclaim during a multiyear run in the iconic role of Glinda in the Broadway production of “Wicked.” Her national tour and Las Vegas credits include “Wicked,” “Newsies,” “Flashdance” and “Duck Commander Musical.” Her work in regional theatre includes productions of “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Hairspray” and “Grease.” Born and raised in Nashville, Mason has a BFA in Music Theatre from Elon University.
“A Holiday Spectacular” will be airing multiple times throughout the month of December. Visit the movie’s website for more information.
