Clark presented on the use of technology to support writing in the mathematics curriculum.
Professor of Mathematics Jeff Clark presented a talk entitled “Encouraging Students to Write Mathematics: LaTeX and Mathematica” on Saturday, March 18 at the International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics in Denver, CO. (This talk was an expanded version of a talk previously offered at the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America on March 10.)
LaTeX and Mathematica are software packages that facilitate the typesetting of mathematics (among other things). Given that mathematical exposition is based on the use of symbols for concise expression of abstractions, the talk focused on the need to encourage students to use the strengths of these tools to improve their clarity.
Clark has regularly presented at the ICTCM since the 1990’s.
