Van Norman has been selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders 2024 program, a highly competitive program that is focused on developing professional leadership in libraries.
The American Library Association (ALA) has announced that Elon librarian Alison Van Norman has been selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders 2024 program.
This highly competitive program focuses on developing professional leadership in libraries. The 2024 Emerging Leaders cohort consists of 50 librarians from across the country who will receive training, undertake a project, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Training begins at the 2024 ALA LibLearnX Conference in Baltimore in January, followed by six months of online work. Participants will make a presentation at the 2024 ALA Annual Conference in San Diego in June.
“The Emerging Leaders program recognizes outstanding early career librarians and will prepare Alison to be a leader within ALA, throughout the profession, and at Elon,” said Patrick Rudd, coordinator of library instruction and outreach. “Alison will form a strong network with her peers in the program and I look forward to seeing Alison develop into a strong adaptive leader.”
In addition to being selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders program, Alison was also awarded sponsorship by the ALA division Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures to cover conference expenses.
Van Norman joined Elon University in June 2020 after gaining a master of library and information studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2019. She serves as outreach & marketing librarian and is the library liaison to the art, music and performing arts departments.
