Campus safety and services during upcoming break

Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley shared a message with the university community on Monday, Jan. 23, about operations and safety on campus during the break between Winter Term and Spring Semester that runs from Friday, Jan. 27, through Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Winter Term exams for undergraduate students and some graduate programs will take place on Thursday, January 26. The gap in time from Friday, Jan. 27, through Wednesday, Jan. 31, is sometimes colloquially referred to as “fake break,” and several campus services will have adjusted hours during this time.

As a reminder, there are several 24/7 services available throughout the break between Winter Term and Spring Term.

  • Campus Safety & Police can be reached at 336-278-5555. They can also assist with connections to the Student Life on-call administrators.
  • On-call crisis counselors are available at 336-278-2222.
  • SAFEline is available at 336-278-3333 for confidential support with identity-based bias, sexual violence, or interpersonal violence – they can also be a confidential resource to access on-call violence responders.
  • TimelyCare free virtual medical and mental health service is available 24/7 throughout the break from anywhere in the United States.

Below are the operating hours of student services during the break:

Residence Halls and University Apartments

  • Residence halls and university apartments do not close during “fake break,” and neighborhood offices remain open during regular weekday business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please use your respective neighborhood on-call phone number for any needs after hours.
  • Spring Term move-in and check-in for new transfer and first-year students is Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the neighborhood area offices.

Parking

  • If you are leaving for the break and planning on leaving your vehicle on campus, you may leave it in your permitted lot or you may park it in the Innovation Quad/Colonnades area or South Campus. Please avoid Schar Center due to a basketball game at the end of break.
  • Make sure your vehicle is locked and you take any valuables with you.

Belk Library

  • Belk Library will maintain normal operating hours through the break.
  • The library closes at 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26.
  • Hours for Saturday, Jan. 27 are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • On Sunday, Jan. 28, the library opens at 10 a.m. and resumes overnight hours for Phoenix Card holders.
  • Visit the Belk Library website for information about library hours for non-Phoenix Card holders.

Campus Recreation and Wellness

  • Campus Recreation and Wellness facilities will have adjusted hours from Wednesday, Jan. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 31.
  • The PARC fitness center will remain open from 6 a.m. to Midnight daily throughout Winter Break.
  • Visit the Campus Recreation and Wellness website and scroll to “Winter Term Exams and Break Hours” for adjusted hours of operation.

Campus Transportation

  • On Wednesday, Jan. 24, the Elon Express routes will stop service at the end of shifts.
  • All routes will resume their normal schedules beginning Thursday, Feb. 1.
  • E-Ride services will not be available on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
  • The Elon Express schedules and routes are available online.

Counseling Services

  • Counseling Services will maintain regular hours this week and is available by appointment on weekdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • TimelyCare free virtual medical and mental health service is available 24/7 throughout the break from anywhere in the United States.
  • The Crisis Counselor-on-Call remains available 24/7 by calling 336-278-2222. Call 9-1-1 for any psychological emergency that is life-threatening or involves imminent danger to self or others.
  • Visit the Counseling Services website for information about hours and appointment times, links to online resources, and information about emergency and crisis resources.

Elon Dining

  • The last day for fall meal plans is Thursday, Jan. 25. Spring meal plans take effect on Tuesday, Jan 30.
  • Elon Dining is proud to partner with the university to provide meals to students who are remaining on campus over fake break. McEwen Dining Hall will be open daily for brunch from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Please bring your Phoenix Card to swipe in.
  • Additional operations will begin opening on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
  • Elon Dining has posted special hours for exam day and fake break. Menus and hours for dining locations across campus are always available on the Elon Dining menu and hours site.

Mail Services

  • Mail Services will be operating under normal hours:
    • Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Saturday: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    • Sunday: Closed
  • Visit the Mail Services website for updated hours and operations.

Moseley Center

  • Moseley Center will have adjusted hours of operation during the break:
    • Thursday, Jan. 25 – Saturday, Jan. 27: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
    • Sunday, Jan. 28: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
    • Monday, Jan. 29 and Tuesday, Jan. 30: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
    • Wednesday, Jan. 31: 8 a.m. – midnight
  • Normal hours will resume on Thursday, Feb. 1
  • Visit the Moseley Center website for information about adjusted hours.

Student Health Services

  • Student Health Services will have abbreviated hours beginning Thursday, Jan. 25, through Tuesday, Jan. 30, operating 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Normal hours will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • TimelyCare free virtual medical and mental health service is available 24/7 throughout the break from anywhere in the United States.
  • Visit the Student Health Services website for information on hours, appointment times, and off-campus resources.
