The video series offers a new way to learn about how Elon’s organizations and clubs reflect the university's approach to inclusive excellence.
The new Feature Phoenix series is offering an opportunity to learn about how student organizations and clubs are supporting inclusive excellence on campus. Episode Four introduces Danielle Dyer ’24, who serves as president of Elon’s Omicron Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In this episode of Feature Phoenix, Dyer shares about what the mission of AKA is and how she found sisterhood.
Many students find that connecting with the fraternity and sorority community enhances their experience while at Elon. Members of the wide variety of Greek organizations at Elon have opportunities to learn about and grow from the organization’s foundational principles, and in the connections members form with their fellow students they can find guidance, support and personal development.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is a Black Greek letter organization apart of the Divine Nine, a group of Black Greek organizations that were founded during a low point in American race relations. “Divine Nine organizations were founded on the need for groups like our sororities and fraternities to give Black people a space in the college setting,” Dyer said.
The Omicron Epsilon Chapter was established at Elon on May 9, 1987. It has since celebrated 35 years of continuous service and excellence on the campus. On their website, students can find information about the chapter, organization history, programs and updates about current and alumnae members. Omicron Epsilon Chapter’s email and social media account information are available on Phoenix Connect.
Feature Phoenix is a great way to learn about the clubs and organizations that Elon has to offer and how inclusive excellence is engrained on the campus. The series will feature clubs and organizations of different sizes that bring together people around a range of topics.
