Elon University invited staff, faculty and community members to gather Under the Oaks on June 20 for food, fellowship and fun.
Elon University welcomed the first day of summer with its annual concert and picnic, inviting staff, faculty and community members to gather Under the Oaks for free food, games, music and prizes.
The shade of the oak trees provided some relief from the late June heat as attendees dined on summer favorites including hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans and fresh ice cream. The outdoor location was also a welcome change following last year’s event held in Alumni Gym due to weather. The North Carolina Brass Band played a selection of America patriotic classics from John Phillip Sousa to the Armed Forces Medley.
Elon Academy students were also able to join in on the fun, playing lawn games such as giant connect four and corn hole. Community members could win prizes, including gift cards to Lowes and Amazon, along with centerpieces. The university’s Belk Library was also showcasing their summer offerings for the community.
Sponsored by the Office of the President, Elon has hosted the summer concert and picnic for several years, offering an opportunity for the broader Piedmont Triad community to join the university community in fellowship.
